Perennial; short woody perennial basal stem, or short knotty branched caudex; stems and petioles cover with fine dense hairs.

Leaves subround to triangular-ovate, lower leaves entire, upper leaves 3-5-sect, bluntly acute toothed, lobes ovate, pruinose.

Inflorescence: annual flowering stems long, thin, 2mm diam., prostrate to ascending, 20-50cm;; umbels of 2-5 flowers; bracts small, narrow lanceolate to linear, 6-8mm long 1.5mm  wide at base, not fused; sepals rather long acute, long mucro, 3mm; petals same length or slightly longer, 6-7mm, purple, narrow, not touching; stigma yellow, stamens purple, pollen yellow.

Fruit: rostrum 12-14 cm; mericarp 4-6(-7) mm, without transverse wrinkle below apex; awn feathery.
